World Consumer Rights Day 2017

Department of Consumer Affairs held “World Consumer Rights Day 2017” from March 15th to 17th 2017 at Mandalay City Hall, Mandalay Region, Myanmar. The aim of holding the event is to raise consumer awareness on consumer rights particularly in digital world. The event was opened by the Regional Minister, Mandalay Region and Director General also attended the event. A total of around 350 participants attended the event. Winner Prizes for writing songs and cartoons were paid during the event. Many show rooms, stalls and stage performances are displayed during the event period. Finally, the event was held successfully and a series of events will take place in different places in Myanmar in the following years.

A study visit to Malaysia was conducted by a group of Delegates led by Director General of Department of Consumer Affairs from March 22nd to 26th 2016 upon receipt of invitation from the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism of Malaysia. The group learned consumer protection legislation, policies, institutions and activities in Malaysia and the study visit contributed a great benefit to Myanmar Delegates and the group could also exchange knowledge, experience and mutual friendship with two countries, Malaysia and Myanmar.

A study visit to Thailand was conducted by a group of Delegates led by Deputy Director General of Department of Consumer Affairs from February 20th to 22nd 2017 upon receipt of invitation from the Office of Consumer Protection Board of Thailand. The group found the study visit very beneficial as they could not only learn consumer protection legislation, policies, institutions and activities in Thailand but also could exchange knowledge, information and build mutual friendship between two countries, Thailand and Myanmar.
