We take pricing transparency very seriously, says authority

Brunei Darussalam , 10 January 2024

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) would like to thank Budget Queen for the concerns raised over missing price tags in certain business establishments in the letter, published in the Bulletin on December 27, 2023.

DEPS takes matters related to pricing transparency very seriously. Through the Department of Consumer Affairs, DEPS has been conducting regular inspections at business premises, including school supplies stores, to ensure businesses comply with relevant laws and regulations.

It is hoped that such efforts will foster ethical business conduct towards building a fair and healthy business environment.

Despite recent inspections not finding any non-compliance on the Price Display Order, DEPS would appreciate if consumers who notice any non-compliance with the Order or related concerns to alert the agency through the PenggunaBijak mobile app or Darussalam Line 123 or email to consumercomplaints@jpes.gov.bn.

It will also aid the authority in carrying out proper assessment if details such as name, address of businesses and relevant supporting information are also provided.

DEPS would like to remind the consumers of their rights and the pivotal role they play in contributing to a business-compliant environment, and extend appreciation for the feedback provided in supporting us in fostering a more transparent and accountable business environment while reinforcing our enforcement mechanism.
