DTI Spot-Checks LPG Cylinders in Cavite

The Enforcement Division (ED) of the Department of Trade and Industry-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (DTI-FTEB) conducted a special enforcement activity on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) steel cylinders in Trece Martires, Cavite on 6 May 2021. The DTI Cavite Provincial Office assisted the FTEB enforcers during the conduct of inspection.

Three establishments monitored in Cavite were found to be compliant with Philippine National Standards’ (PNS) requirements and technical regulations. Valid permits and licenses were also found in all three firms.

Prior to market distribution, LPG steel cylinders for household use are required to be certified by the DTI-Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) to ensure the safety and welfare of the buying public. Several products which have undergone the mandatory certification scheme of the BPS shall be subjected to post-market activities by the monitoring and enforcement teams of FTEB.

The specific product coverage of a compliant and standard LPG steel cylinder must be from 1 liter to 150 liters water capacity only as per BPS. Moreover, LPG cylinders must have the required Philippine Standard (PS) markings and must be clearly marked with proper information to show its contents and specifications.

“The FTEB is working hand in hand with the BPS in accomplishing DTI-CPG’s duty and mandate to provide safe and quality products to our fellow Filipino consumers,” Consumer Protection Group (CPG) Undersecretary Ruth B. Castelo stated.

“Our team is here to guarantee that all LPG steel cylinders in the market are conforming to the BPS’ approved standards so that they remain safe while in use in our households,” said FTEB Director Ronnel O. Abrenica.
