DEPS reinforces ethical sales practices to protect consumers

Brunei Darussalam , 27 March 2025

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS), through the Department of Consumer Affairs, has reaffirmed the importance of ethical and transparent sales practices to strengthen consumer confidence following routine inspections of businesses participating in the Jualan Mega Brunei (JMB) 2025 campaign.

The inspections serve as a reminder for businesses to clearly display prices and ensure transparency in their sales terms and conditions, in compliance with the Cheap Sale Price Regulations and the Price Display Order under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142. Non-compliance may result in a fine of up to BND1,000, with repeat offenders facing a maximum penalty of BND20,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
