ASEAN Launches Two Regional Campaigns on Misleading Advertisement and Consumer Redress
ASEAN , 01 December 2020
Today, the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP) launched its second and third Regional Information Campaigns on Misleading Advertisement and Consumer Redress. The campaign highlights ACCP’s commitment towards ensuring a high common level of consumer empowerment and protection in the region. The first campaign was launched on 16th March this year on the subject of online shopping.
The campaign is launched in an effort to increase consumer awareness on product advertisements which may be misleading or deceptive. Comprised of a set of video and infographics , the campaign seeks to inform consumers that they have the right to demand accurate information on a product before purchasing from businesses and the right to demand compensation if the product or service they purchased was not as advertised.
Moreover, the campaign aims to ensure that consumers are aware of their rights to seek compensation in the event the product or service they purchased resulted to harm or loss.
The video and infographics explain how ASEAN consumers can practice these rights, while directing them to existing institutions that will assist them in resolving these claims. These institutions include consumer protection agencies and associations, as well as Alternative Dispute Resolution bodies, sectoral authorities or regulators.
The regional information campaigns which will run from today to 31 January 2021 are launched simultaneously at the national and regional levels within ASEAN.
