ASEAN , 01 January 1970
The 2nd ASEAN Consumer Protection Conference (2nd ACPC) will convene from 14-15 December 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand, as part of an ongoing effort to enhance awareness on consumer protection issues in ASEAN. The 2nd ACPC will discuss on consumer product safety legislation, the use of warranties and guarantees, enforcement and remedies, recalls and redress, institutional design and effectiveness of consumer and competition agencies, and finally a look at future trends such as sustainable consumption and the modern ASEAN consumer.
The Conference deliberations will be underpin by the publication of the second volume of the ASEAN Consumer Protection Digests and Case Studies: A Policy Guide (Volume II)’ containing 12 policy digests and 2 case studies which explore key consumer protection issues and how they have emerged within the last few years. Over 100 representatives from the relevant sectoral bodies will participate, including government agencies, the private sector, academicians and consumer organisations.
Discussions from the 2nd ACPC will facilitate the implementation of the recently developed ASEAN Strategic Action Plan for Consumer Protection (2016-2025), which charts the work of the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP) for the next 10 years. The Action Plan consists of five strategic goals and three supportive measures to support the implementation of the strategic goals, and articulates ASEAN’s consumer protection goals and aspirations as the regional grouping enters the next phase of integration and stronger cohesiveness as a Community.
The 2nd ACPC is be hosted by the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) of Thailand and supported by the ASEAN – Australia Development Cooperation Program Phase II (AADCP II) as part of a wider project entitled ‘Supporting Research and Dialogue in Consumer Protection’, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat.
